Employer profile
As of 31 May 2025, the FireUp job board hosted 263 fire and forestry employers across ten industry types, with 1,615+ active job postings. The FireUp job board saw a notable spike in postings early in the month with over 800 jobs added on May 1 alone but steadied thereafter.
In the past month, the job board received 2,532 unique visitors and 492 job clicks. The most job clicks were received on postings from the State of California (CAL FIRE), the Association for Fire Ecology, Firestorm Wildland Fire Suppression, Old Growth Tree Service, Rocky Mountain Youth Corps, State of Washington, Gridware, Western Fire Chiefs Association, Megafire Action, The Nature Conservancy, and Miller Timber, State of Washington, PG&E, Muon Space, Blue Forest, among others.
The most frequently posted job functions were in Operations, IT, People & HR, Customer Service, Administration, Sales & Business Development, Marketing & Communications, followed by Software engineering, Accounting & Finance, Legal, and Product & Design roles.
A total of 168 job applications were submitted through the FireUp job board in the past month with the greatest number of applications going to the State of Hawaii, Grayback Forestry, State of Oregon, Conservation Legacy, County of Los Angeles, Western Fire Chiefs Association, State of Washington, California Conservation Corps, Old Growth Tree Service, National Forest Foundation, Megafire Action, Western Fire & Forest Resilience Collaborative, AmeriCorps, National Park Service, Sierra Nevada Alliance, Davey Tree Expert Co., and Wildfire Defense Systems, among others.
The most popular job searches were for ‘marketing & communications’, ‘data science’, ‘administration’, and ‘design’ related jobs indicating the range of transferrable skills talent may be interested in bringing to the fire and forestry industry.
Talent Profile
In May, the FireUp Talent Network grew to 326 members. Most of FireUp’s Talent Network have at least 10 years of prior work experience with transferable skills in project management, operations, administration, data science, marketing and communications.
More than half our candidates have prior experience with the private sector, followed by experience with public agencies (especially federal agencies), educational institutions, conservation non-profits, environmental coalitions, and advocacy groups.
Past experience reflects a range of backgrounds, including in conservation, research, forestry, data/ GIS, firefighting, prescribed fire, sustainability, engineering, finance, and sales and business development.
More than half our candidates are actively seeking new roles, while 34% are open to the right opportunity. Most candidates in FireUp’s Talent Network are based in the western United States, specifically California, followed by Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Oregon, Montana and Washington (see below).
Most are looking for roles in Operations, including field operations, Research, Project Management and Coordination, Data Science, Policy Advocacy, Training and Outreach (see below).
